Junior Lexi Sardinas has been a part of the Farmington High School (FHS) gymnastics team since her freshman year in 2023, when the team placed first in the CCC (central Connecticut conference). During both her freshmen and sophomore seasons, Sardinas led the team to qualifying for the Class M states meet where they placed 4th overall in the 2023-2024 season and 5th overall in the 2024-2025 season. On an individual level, Sardinas competed in the state open competition where she placed to then compete in the New England’s competition during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Sardinas has been dedicated to the sport for the past 15 years, starting at the young age of 2 and later joining club gymnastics at FVG. She put in countless hours during both the high school and club seasons, and her passion, dedication, and hard work were evident throughout the year as she consistently earned high scores at meets.
Not only does her hard work show on the scoresheet but also in the way she leads by example. Lifting her teammates, communicating clearly, and setting the standard for effort and accountability every day. She is a natural leader with her teammates and this season she was named a junior captain of the team.
“Gymnastics may look individual, but we succeed as a team. When one of us is confident, it lifts all of us,” stated Sardinas.
As a junior captain, she consistently translates her leadership into action by supporting her teammates both on and off the mat. She encourages confidence during high-pressure routines, offers guidance during practices, and helps maintain a positive, focused team environment. Her ability to balance personal performance with team success reflects her maturity. By fostering trust and resilience amongst her teammates, she plays a crucial role in strengthening team chemistry and morale. Her presence as a junior captain not only elevates the team’s performance but also sets a strong foundation for future leaders.
Looking towards this season, she wants to push herself and her team to get better and consistently perform well during meets. Hoping this year they will qualify for states as a team and grow stronger together through dedication and perseverance.
“Every routine is a chance to trust your training and prove to yourself how far you’ve come,” says Sardinas.
