On Friday, February 6, 2026, the Farmington Valley Generals (FVG) were geared up and ready for one of their biggest games of the season. That night, they were going up against Northwest Catholic and ready to come out on top for their final win to get into the state tournament. They went on to fight hard and ended with a win (3-2) and a hat trick scored by sophomore Tommy Zadrozny.
The 2024-2025 season was a strong one for the team, as their hard work and effort took them to the state tournament. This year, they have already shown strong unity and a commitment to putting in the work necessary to achieve the best possible results.
The team is unique in that it is made up of players from different Connecticut high schools, including students from Farmington, Avon, Windsor, and Lewis Mills. This group has shown true chemistry and grit as they have come together to face new opponents and new challenges throughout the season. Even with the loss of graduating 8 seniors from last year’s roster, the team’s grit and determination are unwavering.
During the pre-season, Farmington High School senior Emerson Stambough was named co-captain, a role he has embraced as he has led the team through the ups and downs of this season.
“I see the Farmington Valley Generals having one of their greatest seasons that it has had in a while. A lot of other teams may doubt us because we graduated a good number of players, but this team is different from years past,” stated Stambough.
Stambough’s positive view reflects the team’s energy and anticipation for future games in the season.
“I first would like to mention senior goalies Jack Almon and Gavin Lubinski. [They] played great last year, and I know they are going to be two brick walls this year. I think that Logan Royer (senior co-captain) and Tommy Zadrozny (sophomore assistant co-captain) are going to be offensive threats that are going to be putting in a lot of goals,” stated Stambough.
Between highlighting individual talent and emphasizing leadership, the team’s confidence also comes from what cannot be measured on the stat sheet. Beyond strong goaltending and offensive firepower, the players have been building trust and unity through practices and preseason preparation. This sense of togetherness has helped establish a strong foundation as they push through the season.
“Our chemistry is rock solid. We have a great group of guys who are ready to go through anything for each other [and we are] all working hard for the best results,” stated Tommy Zadrozny.
The generals had a great season and even made it to the state tournament, reaching the quarterfinals, where they unfortunately came up short to north haven. After a strong season, the generals are ready to work hard in the off-season with spring and summer training. The future of this team is looking bright.
At the end of the season, the generals had four CCC all-conference players: junior Sakuya Egashira, seniors Logan Royer and Emerson Stambaugh, and sophomore Tommy Zadrozny. Senior Emerson Stambaugh and Sophomore Tommy Zadrozny were also named first team all-state for Connecticut Division II hockey.
