On Wednesday, November 26th, 2025, The Farmington Football varsity team met its rivals, Plainville, for the annual Thanksgiving game. This highly anticipated match has been an annual matchup for decades where Plainville and Farmington have been going head to head in order to come out on top and return to their schools with the Canal Cup.
This year the game fell on Farmington’s senior night as the team was celebrating its 12 Seniors: Justin Kinney, Tyler Perin, Michael Campagnano, Josh Larkin, Alex Walton, Oliver Adorno, Ajani Taylor, Sylvain Tardif, Michael Coccomo, Tyler Thompson, Ty Nogiec, and Joey Kelly. The senior’s ambition to finish their high-school careers on a high note helped lead the team to a 27-14 victory.
Ty Nogiec, two time co-captain, has been playing for the varsity team for the past four years. Nogiec was named a part of the CCC All-Conference team, an accomplishment that reflects his consistent hard work, leadership, and his impact on the field. For Nogiec, winning the Canal Cup was the cherry on top of his high school football career.

“It’s the kind of moment you dream about, walking off the field knowing you left everything out there and helped bring home a trophy that actually means something to our school and community,” shared Nogiec.
Head coach Chris Machol has been part of the Farmington football program for 22 years, serving as head coach for the past 17 years. Throughout the season, Machol led daily practices that included weight training, film review, and on-field work. This consistent preparation played a role in the team’s performance over the course of the season and contributed to Farmington’s Canal Cup victory.
“There were several key plays in the game, certainly the long touchdown passes to Tyler Thompson and Josh Larkin from Mason Kiniry, the defense coming up with back to back sacks by Brett Phillips and Aiden Gootnick to take Plainville out of scoring position near the end of the half, but possibly the biggest sequence was Justin Kinney hustling to make a tackle on the 5 yard line to save a touchdown on an interception. [This was] followed immediately by Thompson’s interception giving the ball right back. That led to a touchdown drive at the beginning of the 4th that really put the game out of reach,” Machol recalled.
For the past few years, Farmington football has stood out for their impressive defense. This season, senior Micheal Coccomo led class L in sacks for 8 weeks and led the state for 3 weeks. Coccomo’s sum of 12 sacks, along with his strong leadership skills led to him being named a co-captain for the team by the end of the season. Due to his strong leadership and toughness on and off the field, Coccomo was later announced to be part of the CCC All-Conference team and be named as first team All-State for class L.
Sophomore Tyler McMahon had a total of 100 tackles in the 2025 season, helping the team stop the ball on all parts of the field. McMahon received recognition for his hard work throughout the season by being named to the CCC All-Conference team.
Not only did Farmington stand out in defense, but their offense was prominent in this game against Plainville. Sophomore quarterback Mason Kiniry set a personal record with 321 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes in the Canal Cup game. Kiniry has been a part of the Varsity team since his Freshman year as a quarterback. He took on the role of the starting quarterback in only his 6th game with the high school program. In the future, performances like this also set the tone for Kiniry’s leadership goals next season, as he prepares to take on a larger role in guiding the team as an upperclassman and leader on the field.
“There will be a lot of responsibility taking on a leadership role, but I think the guys are bought in and will be determined to grow as a team next year. I think the best thing I can do as a leader next year is being vocal in a positive way, and being encouraging, but also leading by example,”stated Kiniry.
Looking ahead, Kiniry hopes to help build a stronger team by encouraging consistency and effort from everyone on the roster. With many underclassmen returning, he’s confident that Farmington can continue to grow and carry this season’s momentum into next year.
Going into the next season, coach Machol sees all the good that can come out of Farmington football and shows how they have the ability to bring the cup back to Farmington for the third time in a row.
“Our current freshman and sophomore classes are the biggest and most complete we have had in years. We are certainly going to miss our seniors, especially at wide receiver, defensive back and running back [positions], but we are bringing back most of our offensive line, defensive line, our quarterback, and several quality linebackers. I am most proud of the team for playing complete games this year. Every team we played, we made them earn everything they got. Even in our losses, there was no quit from this team, and in the games that we won, we didn’t let up and let the other team come back. The future is bright.”
