With the Holiday season here, Dish ‘n Dat restaurant located in Canton, CT, is continuing its commitment to giving back to the community with its annual Holiday Toy Drive. Whether it’s hats, canned food, toys, or a hot meal, Dish ‘n Dat has got it covered. First established in 2020, the drive began as a way to give back to the community during the height of the pandemic. Six years later, the effort remains a vital resource for children in need and a meaningful reminder of the community’s capacity for generosity.
The central purpose of the toy drive is to provide new, unwrapped gifts to children whose families may not have the means to purchase presents during the holiday season. On Christmas Day, many local families come into the restaurant and take what they need. What began as an emergency effort to support struggling households has grown into a dependable annual tradition. Last year, the drive helped over 540 families, and this year the restaurant is expecting to support at least 600.
Long-time Dish ‘n Dat server and manager Jennifer Pogson commented on what to donate if you are thinking about it this holiday season.
“…We collect toys for children under thirteen, gift cards for children 13 and older, as well as adults,” Pogson shared.
Donations can be made by dropping off toys at Dish ’n Dat’s main location at 144 Albany Turnpike in Canton. Collection bins are placed at the entrance and are accessible throughout normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 11 am-9 pm, and Saturday, 9 am-9 pm, and Sundays from 9 am-8 pm.
The drive welcomes a wide range of items, including books, puzzles, stuffed animals, sports equipment, creative activity kits, and age-appropriate toys for children of all ages. The donation period runs through December 24th. For more information, check out Dish n Dat’s Facebook page for updates.
