BIRDCODE Hot Chicken has been steadily expanding across Connecticut since opening its first location in West Hartford, followed by a second restaurant in New Britain, with additional sites planned in towns such as Canton, Bristol, and Cheshire. The restaurant specializes in chicken tenders, sandwiches, and fries, along with sides like mac n’ cheese and house-made sauces.
Every part of the menu is prepared in-house, from the breading to the spice mixes, an approach that sets BIRDCODE apart from larger chains and helps the team maintain consistency as they grow. The menu offers a variety of customization options, including multiple spice levels ranging from no spice to extra hot. Each level uses a seasoning blend developed by BIRDCODE’s culinary team. Alongside the spice choices, customers can pair their meals with sauces that are made fresh daily. The sides, including their mac n’ cheese and seasoned fries, are also prepared with the same focus on freshness.
“I would describe our atmosphere as upbeat and welcoming,” said Esther Rodriguez, a longtime BIRDCODE team member. “We have a really great culture, so when I walk in to work, I’m able to hang out with my coworkers and have a great time. I have been at BIRDCODE since I was 17, and I truly love the people,” Rodriguez added.
Expansion has become a key component of BIRDCODE’s direction, but each opening is approached carefully. As the brand continues to grow, BIRDCODE also places a strong emphasis on building consistent teams at each new location. Hiring and training staff who understand the restaurant’s culture is an important part of maintaining the same experience across different communities and locations.
“It starts with the people. It’s all about who you hire—passionate people that want to provide that experience for our customers,” Co-owner Phil Killoran shared.
Killoran also emphasized the role of their in-house preparation in building the brand’s identity.
“Every ingredient is hand-selected by us and not just thrown together,” he said, explaining that the team’s focus on food quality is important to maintaining consistency across every location.
Customers have taken notice of the combination of atmosphere, quality, and convenience. Natasha Korzhneva, a regular at the New Britain location, shared her experience.
“When I first came in, the music was perfect. The vibe is right, the food is good, and if you come with friends, you’ll have a great time. There are a lot of chicken restaurants, but a lot of them are far away. It’s nice to have something in the New Britain area closer to me,” Korzhneva explained.
As BIRDCODE continues to open new locations, the focus on hand-prepared food, quality ingredients, and strong store culture remains central to the brand’s identity. While expansion introduces BIRDCODE to more towns, each restaurant aims to deliver the same level of freshness and service that defined the original West Hartford, CT location.
