Senior Night at the FHS field hockey game was not just an overview of four years of hard work and dedication, it was a celebration of friendships, growth, and a passion for the sport. On October 19 the field hockey team played Avon and emotions ran high, as the cheers echoed in honor of the seniors.
The atmosphere was charged with excitement and nostalgia as the seniors emerged to be honored by fellow teammates, coaches and others. The crowd, a mix of parents, fellow students, and supporters, broke out in applause, recognizing the commitment these players have shown throughout their high school careers.
The seniors displayed remarkable skill and teamwork, showcasing the progress they had made since their first days on the team. Although FHS fell short to Avon 2-1, the emotions on the turf were beyond the score.
What made this night truly special was the heartfelt celebration held before the game. The announcer made special announcements sharing seniors’ plans for post-graduation, they also received flowers before playing their final game under the lights. Along with just the Farmington seniors, Avon senior players were also honored with flowers and an announcement.
The seniors, some of whom had been playing together since their freshman year, reflected on the growth they had experienced, both as individuals and as a team. When asked about her experience in field hockey, Senior Anna Loughman said, “I am so grateful for such an amazing experience playing with these girls, they have made high school so memorable. This year was truly embodied in our motto – ‘family is love.’”
After the game, seniors celebrated with the underclassmen, enjoying cake, taking pictures, and spending time together. As the night concluded, the seniors left the field with their heads held high, proud of their accomplishments and the lasting mark they will leave on the program.
Head Coach, Sadie Robinson reflected, “This year was especially special to me as a coach. Our 11 seniors are the [first] class that I started coaching for Farmington Field Hockey. I feel so lucky to have been able to watch them grow as young women over the course of four years of fun field hockey.”
