On September 26, 2025, Farmington High School hosted its annual Capstone Networking Event, giving students the chance to meet with local professionals and share their projects. The event brought together students from different Capstone classes with community members who offered feedback, advice, and encouragement.
Each Capstone student met with a professional for roughly 15 minutes to explain their project, discuss their goals, and talk about possible next steps. The goal was to help students gain real-world experience and build confidence when talking about their work.
“I heard a lot of professionals talking about being happy to follow up with students after the networking event conversation,” said Dr. Steve Netcoh, the Career Center director.
These follow-up opportunities mean students aren’t just meeting professionals for a single conversation. By maintaining contact, students can get guidance, feedback, and even potential introductions that extend the impact of the networking event beyond the classroom.
“That provides at least one connection in the community for them. I think having the opportunity to speak with these professionals and then creating opportunities for connections will strengthen the relationship between Capstone and the broader community,” Dr. Netcoh added.
For many students, this event was an important opportunity to connect what they’re doing in class to their future interests. Sahasra Ravuri, a senior in the E-Commerce Entrepreneurship Capstone, shared how the event gave her more experience talking to professionals and presenting her project outside of the classroom.
“I appreciated having a perspective other than just my classmates or teachers. I think networking is very important because I’m interested in studying management in college. Getting perspectives from people who are professionals and gaining insight from them is important.”
Another Capstone senior, Miriam Feinberg, agreed that speaking with someone outside of school made a difference.
“It made me think about my project in a new way,” she said. “It was helpful to hear from someone who actually works in the field and could give real advice.”
The Capstone Networking Event continues to be a meaningful part of the Capstone experience at Farmington High School. Dr. Netcoh stated how this event will translate into students’ life after high school.
“These conversations help students build relationships that could last well beyond high school.”
Capstone students will continue to work on their projects in an area of study of their choosing throughout the school year. The professional relationships they built during this event will provide guidance, feedback, and resources that students can rely on as they develop their projects. These connections help students refine their ideas, gain new perspectives, and strengthen their work beyond the classroom.
