On September 11th 2024, Kendrick Lamar broke his absence in the industry by dropping a song on his instagram. Though untitled, fans are calling it “Watch The Party Die”.  

This unexpected song release was planned perfectly by following the announcement of his super bowl appearance next year. The drop really confirmed Lamar’s bounce back after the Drake-Kendrick diss track saga, which had fans ecstatic for Lamar.  

Lamar’s “Untitled” had a direct purpose, to call out the rap & hip-hop industry on their primary focus of profit rather than self expression and spreading truth. Having been in the music industry since 2004, Lamar’s seen a multitude of new developments, including watching the industry turn into the exact thing it used to resent, profiteers. 

By utilizing his skill of storytelling through lyrics, Lamar expresses his anger and disappointment. With lyrics like, “Radio personality pushing propaganda for salary,” Lamar directly calls out the false narratives that the media is spreading just to gain profit.

His anger is shown through passionate rapping with impactful lyrics. With the vocals and beats sounding flowy and light, they contradict the anger of his words which ultimately creates an amazing blend of passion and emotion without the lyrics being overtaken by a heavy dramatic beat. 

It’s clear Lamar’s experiences brought out his passion for music’s purpose and he is eager for a change. Hopefully the industry will listen.
