Following Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home is the last Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film to be released this year, on December 17. Wrapping up the Spider-Man trilogy, this movie is highly anticipated as a result of the cliffhanger in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and rumors of it being a multiversal film, including characters from outside projects.

The second Spider-Man movie, Far From Home, ended with the main villain, Mysterio, revealing Spider-Man’s identity as Peter Parker to the world and framing him as an enemy to the public. After working hard to live a secretive double life as a high school student and Avenger, Peter faces the challenge of the public seeing him as a villain.

“I am SUPER excited for this movie, Spider-Man has been my favorite character since I was a kid; however cliche it is to say this I feel like I grew up with him and he means a lot to me personally. At this point, It’s safe to assume all three (Tobey, Andrew, and Tom) are all in it so I’m really excited to see how they interact with each other,” math teacher Patrick Skerker said.

The film is not only drawing in fans of the MCU universe, but also fans of the Sam Raimi trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and the Amazing Spider-Man universe with Andrew Garfield. This is due to the confirmation that No Way Home is a multiversal film, meaning characters that don’t currently exist in the MCU will become a part of the universe. This opens the gates for all three Spider-Man to share the big screen in the film. Although it’s not officially confirmed, all signs point towards this being true.

Other characters that are confirmed to be coming into the movie through the multiverse include Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and the Lizard, many of the villains from the five other Spider-Man movies. Fans are also speculating over the possibility of Daredevil making an appearance in the film. Daredevil was the most popular Marvel-Netflix TV show and many fans think he will be in the movie based on many reasons, one being that he is a lawyer. His character could easily fit into the plot of the movie because Peter may need a lawyer to help defend his case. The main villain in the Daredevil series, Wilson Fisk, has also made an appearance in Hawkeye, so fans believe it would make sense for Daredevil to also be brought into the MCU as well.

“Rumors are fun, because many of them are true, and many of them are not true. The danger is when you get into the expectations game of wanting people to be excited about the movie they get, and not disappointed about a movie they don’t get,” Marvel President Kevin Fiege said.

The endless possibilities for this movie have Marvel superfans ecstatic and the simple comedy, action, and romance also has less intense fans looking forward to the film. In fact, the overall eagerness for the film to release has broken world records. In just 24 hours, the trailer racked up 355.5 million views on YouTube, breaking the record for the most views in the first day. This record was previously held by the Avengers: Endgame trailer which gained 289 million views in the same amount of time.

“I can’t wait to see how the movie sets up the rest of phase four and five because the multiverse will introduce so many more possibilities. I also can’t wait to see Peter use his Peter tingle,” junior Ally Beck said.

Picking up where the storyline ended off, the trailer shows bits of Spider-Man becoming a target of the police, press, and public which is when he turns to Doctor Strange for help. They decide to use a delicate spell to make the world forget his identity which does not go as planned and builds to the suspense.

“This movie is gonna blow your minds. Trust me!” lead actor Tom Holland said.

Spider-Man: No Way Home officially releases on December 17, but is also available in some theaters the day before. Ticket sales opened on November 29, also known as Spider-Monday, and they are now available to purchase.
