After four years, rapper 21 Savage and producer Metro Boomin teamed up to create the long-awaited sequel to mixtape Savage Mode. On Friday October 2, the 15-song album SAVAGE MODE II was released.

Fans of 21 and Metro Boomin have been waiting years for this highly-anticipated secondary collaboration. Back in 2019, during a live concert in Los Angeles, 21 Savage teased this album to the crowd. This announcement upped the pressure and timeline in which the album would be released. On September 28, both Metro Boomin and 21 Savage released a trailer to SAVAGE MODE II which was narrated by Morgan Freeman. Just four days later, the album was available on all streaming platforms.

Within the four years 21 Savage and Metro Boomin worked on separate projects. 21 released Issa Album (2017) and i am > i was (2018). The song “A Lot” on the 2018 album won the Atlanta rapper a Grammy for Best Rap Song at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards (2019). Meanwhile, Metro Boomin released Perfect Timing with rapper NAV (2017), Double or Nothing with Big Sean (2017), and NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES (2018). Both artists were able to top various charts with these albums.

Needless to say, they both grew and adapted to the constant change of the Rap genre. Their growth is shown throughout SAVAGE MODE II. On song “Said N Done” the rapper talks about his past and reflects on it from his current perspective showing he has grown as a lyricist. This differs from his past music but has key similarities to song “A Lot” such as rapping on a slower beat and having meaning behind the lyrics. In past music, 21 would rap about meaningless topics, but now he references inequality and downsides to fame.

SAVAGE MODE II is currently available on all streaming platforms.
