The boys varsity soccer team beat Simsbury on Friday, October 26 with a score of 2-0. This win brings the boys record to 12 wins, two losses, and one tie.

Both goals were scored in the first half giving the team an early advantage by senior captain Nate Hughes. The team then focused on defense to protect the lead, while the attacking force continued to pressure the Trojans goal.

After the team win senior captain Som Sedigh reflected on how the team played.  He believes that the team’s skills improved as the game progressed.

“We started off slowly, and it was hard to play because the turf was so thin, the ball would just roll past us. But we adjusted, and when we starting playing short long, short long soccer we started winning,” Sedigh said.

Senior Nico Machado who is second top goalscorer on the team with 7 goals and 4 assists and  believes that the momentum leads to a state championship.

“With our win against Simsbury, we clinched the division title which is huge. It is definitely boosting our confidence heading into states; We just have to make sure our confidence can translate into quality performances so we can win a ring,” Machado said.

The team is ranked fifth in Division LL, and the next game is tonight, October 29, against Avon at Fisher Meadows.
