With a record of 7-2, the boys’ hockey team, the Generals, has regained their winning ways this season. Coming off of a disappointing 3-17 season, the co-op team consisting of players from the high school, Avon High School, Lewis Mills High School and Windsor High School, has worked out a new strategy.

The Generals have demonstrated a strong offense this season, outscoring opponents 45 to 22. The main scorers are senior Jake Connelly (Farmington) with a total of six goals, sophomore Timothy “T” Arena (Farmington) with nine goals and sophomore Peter Hoffman (Avon) leading the team with ten goals.

“Most of our success comes from the talent amongst the team along with the leadership of our captains. Being one of the smaller and younger teams, we have to play our fast-paced game to succeed, which has worked well so far,” T Arena said.

The team has added 18 new players this year, contributing depth to the roster and allowed for many lineups to compete with the other teams in the state. Some of the team goals consist of winning the conference, qualifying for the state tournament and staying healthy.

“We are lucky that our seniors are great captains and leaders on and off the ice. I have really learned a lot from them already, and they help us younger players learn to lead through the examples they provide,” Hoffman said.

The team has four senior captains, Jake Connelly and Andrew Arena from Farmington and Mike Wissuchek and Mike Santos from Windsor.

The Generals have 12 games left in the regular season with some key matchups on the horizon.

“The rest of our season is going to be a challenge. Our toughest match up should be the Lyman Hall/H-K/Coginchaug co-op. Other than that, we look to make a run in the state tournament and hopefully bring a championship banner home to Farmington,” Connelly said.
