Brief: Farmington residents take the plunge
February 12, 2016
The annual Penguin Plunge was held at Winding Trails on January 31, to raise money for Special Olympics. This year, a total of 160 plungers participated, raising over$40,000.
The money was donated to the 13,000 athletes involved in the Special Olympics to afford training and set up events.
The plungers dressed up in fun costumes and ran into below freezing water.
Special education teacher Kerry Tharpe is one of the committee members that hosts the event.
“All 160 participants got fired up inside our tent, then paraded around each other and had a great time at the plunge,” Tharpe said.
