With a 27-21 loss to Plainville in the annual Olde Canal Cup during the Thanksgiving game on November 28, the
football team finished their 2019 season and said farewell to the 16 seniors on the team.

The seniors were rewarded with four years of dedication to the program with a 47-0 win over RHAM for their senior night, which also happened to be the WFSB Game of the Week.

Senior quarterback Jacob Conrad threw for seven touchdowns, setting a new school record and tying for
third in the state for the most touchdowns thrown in a game.

“It was fun to score a lot on senior night because it was my second to last game, and it was great to spread the ball
around and have five players score,” Conrad said.

Head coach Christopher Machol has been working with the majority of this year’s seniors for the past four years, and has noticed their camaraderie on the field and how that has impacted the surrounding team.

“What stands out to me the most is how close the players are of the field. This is a group that really are friends and it
made it a great atmosphere to be around. They competed every day and kept getting better each season. We have
some real fantastic athletes in this group, and they made the team something that Farmington can be proud of,” Machol said.

The football team describes themselves as a family, and for some players, they really are family. Junior wide-receiver Joey Guglielmo is the younger brother of senior wide-receiver Mitch Guglielmo, and has had the opportunity to play
alongside his brother for three years.

“Playing with my brother throughout these years has brought us closer together, and watching him play I learned a lot that I can carry over to my senior year,” J. Guglielmo said.

For one senior in particular, this season was especially challenging. Senior Nick Greco first fractured his growth plate during a game against Maloney, but he was able to come back and play for three more weeks. He then tore his ACL against Wethersfield, causing him to miss his last six games of his high school career.

Despite these obstacles, Greco was still there supporting his team every step of the way.

“[When I got injured], I just thought about the team over me. A lot of things were going through my head but my teammates and coaches were behind me and all of my decisions. So when I decided to hang up the cleats, I supported my team through thick and thin as if I was actually playing,” Greco said.
