The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Captain Marvel, released on March 8. The film grossed roughly $153 million in the U.S. during opening weekend, and $455 million
worldwide.

The movie received a rating of 79 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and a rating of 8.3 out of 10 from
Imagine Games Network (IGN).

The film is one of the first in the MCU chronologically, and it serves as a sort of prequel to movies such as The Avengers, given that Captain Marvel takes place decades before.

Brie Larson stars as the protagonist, Vers, a being from the planet Kree who is gifted with super-
powers that include flight and the ability to shoot plasma beams from her hands.

The first act of the film is quite confusing, with many questions that are left until the second; although, this could have been a stylistic choice by the director to help the audience identify with the main character, who has no memories of her past.

The film is supposed to build up to a big twist at the climax, and while the twist was interesting and it fit well with the rest of the plot, it would have been better to see a bit more subtle build up overtime, rather than feeling like it came out of nowhere.

This film toned the typical Marvel humor back a few notches; they had jokes involved, but fewer than what is typically expected from the franchise. This was in interesting choice and gave the movie a bit more of a serious tone.

The movie was overall very successful and answered many questions that viewers had about the MCU before viewing, such as one very particular detail about a character’s origin.

Captain Marvel definitely makes the viewer question everything they thought they knew; in that aspect it is very exciting. I highly recommend this film as it is a must see for Marvel fans.
