New music arrived in the new year as Foo Fighters release Medicine at Midnight

The Foo Fighters have been immersed in the music industry for upwards of 27 years. The American grunge rock band originated in 1994, and was formed in Seattle, Washington. It was established by the former drummer for Nirvana, Dave Grohl after the death of their lead singer, Kurt Kobain.

Consisting of six members, The Foo Fighters were able to start progressing the grunge and alternative style of the 1990’s era. On February 5, The Foo Fighters plan to release their 10th studio album, called ‘Medicine at Midnight.’ As of yet, the band has released three singles that plan to be a part of the new album. ‘Shame Shame’ was released November 8, 2020; ‘No Son of Mine’ was released January 1; ‘Waiting on a war’ was recently released January 14.

The Foo Fighters have been an iconic and consistent band dating back to the 1990’s. Their music has reached the ears of millions of listeners across the world. Just last year, they were planning a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their band’s initiation with the release of ‘Medicine at Midnight.’ This idea was unfortunately struck down by the outbreak of COVID-19 early on in 2020.

Releasing new music nowadays, during the pandemic seems unusual due to the fact that bands are unable to tour around the world and play for large crowds.

“So, six or seven months went by, and I’m, like, we make this music for people to hear. We don’t just make it so that we can go hit the road. We write these songs so people can enjoy them and sing along,” lead singer Dave Grohl said.

During this interview on New York’s Q104.3 radio station, Grohl stated that he and his bandmates had waited long enough to release the new album. He had told reporters that the album was recorded almost two years ago in an old house in his neighborhood.

“Built a studio in the upstairs bedroom; recorded the drums in the living room; the guitars were in the bedroom,” Grohl said.

The album was finished well before the lockdown and everything was set and ready for the tour. As they were unable to tour and release the album, everything was put on hold until further notice.

For many Foo Fighters fans, ‘Medicine at Midnight’ is very anticipated and exciting. Being their 10th studio album, it is clear that this band has come a long way and has been delivering music that has been respected by thousands of fans across the world. After the release of the first single ‘Shame Shame’  Dave Grohl went on to announce that this album will be a little different from previous albums that the Foo Fighters have generated in the past.

“But because it’s unlike anything we’ve ever done, I thought, ‘Okay well this is a good place to start.’ This should be the first thing people hear because it’s indicative of this, sort of left turn that we’ve taken a little bit,” Grohl said.

He also stated that some of the new songs will still have the original Foo Fighters sound. The song ‘Shame Shame’ is certainly not your typical ‘Foo Fighters style.’ There were very major alterations within the song that made it more unique, inclusive of the strange drum beat, and lack of heavy guitar riffs. Even on their 10th studio album release, they are still coming up with more interesting ways to record songs and reach listeners.

There is no doubt that fans are excited for this upcoming album release and the anticipation has been accounted for since early 2020. The band members finally realized and came to the conclusion that it was finally time to release ‘Medicine at Midnight’  still in the midst of a global pandemic.
