30 students from the high school participated in this year’s History Day Contest. The Hartford Regional Contest took place on March 30, and the State Contest was on May 4. Students advance to states by placing in the top three in their category at the regional contest.

The theme of this year’s contest was Triumph and Tragedy in History. After selecting a topic, students have the option of participating in categories from documentaries to exhibits.

“My brother, Pei Chao Zhuo, and I decided to make a documentary about President Jimmy Carter’s administration because our prior knowledge suggested that the Carter’s presidency would fit the theme really well,” senior Pei Yi Zhuo said.

Three students represented the high school at the State Contest, Zhuo and his brother, senior Pei Chao Zhuo, as well as sophomore Veena Kodakirthi. Kodakirthi won third place in the Senior Individual Documentary Category with her entry, “The Fight For Democracy: Alice Paul and the Suffragette Movement” and is an alternate for the National Contest.
